Food Laboratory Testing

Microbial analysis of food and beverages is recommended to prevent foodborne illnesses, for quality control, and required for many processors to comply with FDA and USDA regulations. These tests enable Aemtek’s clients to monitor their products to prevent microbial contamination, which if not detected in time, can cause product loss through spoilage, and may pose serious health risks through food poisoning, etc.

General tests for food and beverages:

  • Total aerobic plate count
  • Total anaerobic plate count
  • Coliforms and E. coli
  • Lactobacilli (lactic acid bacteria)
  • Flat sour organisms (heat tolerant Bacilli, Clostridium & Desulfotomaculum)
  • Shelf life and microbial challenge studies
  • Plant sanitation and environmental monitoring, including on-site audits
  • Yeast and mold (identification is important in spoilage due to storage fungi such as Aspergillus or Penicillium)

Foodborne pathogen detection:

  • Salmonella species
  • Listeria monocytogenes and other species
  • Campylobacter
  • E. coli O157:H7
  • Yersinia
  • Shigella
  • Bacillus cereus
  • Staphylococcus aureus & other specie (including Staph. enterotoxins)
  • Aflatoxins & other mycotoxins
  • Enterobacteriaceae
  • Clostridium perfringens
  • Pseudomonas
Food Chemistry:
  • Moisture (loss on drying)
  • Ash
  • Fat
  • Sodium
  • Potassium
  • Calcium/Iron
  • Lead
  • Nutrition labeling
  • Additives
  • Contaminants
  • Adulterants
  • Composition
  • Herbal & botanical products

Analyses are performed using various rapid and classical methods, including the FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM), the Compendium of Methods for the Microbiological Examination of Foods, the APHA Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products, and the AOAC International Official Methods of Analysis. We employ rigid quality assurance guidelines in all testing. We offer modern rapid methods of analysis for reliable, timely results. Reports are electronically generated in a user-friendly language and format. In addition, our scientists are always ready to answer your questions and address your concerns.
